My content sucks! I need a copywriter...

I have SEO down. Rankings are no issue. I just need to find the final piece to the puzzle and that is "good copy". Anyone have any good tips on where I can find someone to write copy? I made the mistake of hiring "article writers" for all of my website content.

Thanks in advance!

Well, are you building an article site or a sales page? If you want a sales page then yes you need a copywriter, but if you are building an article site, then article writers are what you need. Perhaps if you can share your site, we can help you straighten things out.

Ethan, most forums use what is called BBC code (or one of it's variants). Instead of anchor tags , use the url tag with the [s and ]s. It works the same as HTML code in that you have a "url" tag to open and a "/url" to close.

Finding a good copywriter to fix up your site isn't hard, it's just the pay. Average priced copywriters will write mediocre to great content, the well paid ones will get your sales blowing up.

Where did you look for copywriters? Look on the AWAI forum, where some copywriters are chomping at the bit to write your piece to put in their portfolio.

My mate is a copywriter. He is working out of Spain and is English. Charges around $2000 per copy but he's good. Now lets not forget that's a lot of money but its a sales page right....pm me if this is what you're after.

I have a tried a few of them but it failed for many reason. Quality of writings were very poor and delivery was so delayed. Now I have another platform to share with you!

I don't think I'm allowed to put links here, but look for Godot Media. I've used them once or twice and they've been good so far. Also, their blog is pretty interesting - useful if you're just starting out in the whole online business scene.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Why not try doing it yourself, just sit down and start writing what you want on that page of your site. Don't try and make it sound great just put your thoughts down, next go back and read over what you wrote and start cutting things that don't sound great and move things around to make it sound better and more relevant to that page. After a while it becomes easy and who would know better than you what you want on your site. I got Dragon which is a speech recognition software and I just sit and talk and it puts everything down in word. I don't even have to worry about spelling. I could use it here but on forums I like to type it to keep my skills up. Also you need to remember that there is a difference between a copywriter and an article writer. A copywriter is someone who writes stuff specifically trying to sell something and is worded that way. An article writer is someone who could be telling a story or giving information. Mark

Hmmm.... Talking your ad copy into "Dragon Naturally Speaking" software. Now there's an idea with interesting implications.

"Your sales page should start a dialog with your visitor", they say. Now, if you're actually speaking out loud to your visitor (get a friend or colleague to stand in as a "visitor"?) you should then end up with a more personal and conversational result in your ad copy - a better "dialog".

That's a really good idea, Jim! :) That would make your sales copy conversational, and not too "salesy". :)

You might also want to read this blog post which teaches you how to create a sales page that will convert.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Michelle,

Would be a fun experiment to try recording ad copy. Good for outsourcing too, if your writers have audio transcription devices. I'll have to put Dragon Naturally Speaking on my shopping list (unless that's what's built into my Windows 7 Home Premium).

That's a great article!
I just did a complete rewrite of my new sales page and it's much improved. Great call!

Cheers!

Unfortunately, the voice dictation in Windows SUCKS. (Or at least it does in Vista, and somehow I doubt it's much improved in 7.) Nuance has been at it much longer, and you can get a version for only $50 at Wal-mart or Target easily that would be much better and at least give you an idea if it can work for you.

I have it on mine, and I forget to use it. It does take some time to train. Depends on the work your doing. Sometimes, I'm about the same speed as if I type (with all the correcting I have to do) but sometimes I am faster. Just depends on the content.

In addition to hiring freelancers, you may also check out Grammarly tool to proofread your content. This is actually a great tool that I often use.

with dragon it doesn't put things into audio it puts what you say into print and for me everything seems to read better because the words flow better because I am saying what your reading rather then thinking and typing.

Yes of course Mark. Sorry - I was thinking of my client who owns a transcription service (she's a manual "speech-to-text converter"). Of course she also corrects grammar errors. Speaking of which, I notice the grammar checker in MS-Word 2010 is getting better too.

I keep hearing about how much Dragon Natural Speaking has improved over the years, with less training needed to your voice now and fewer errors. Past time I checked it out myself.

Cheers!

Since talking about it the other day, I used it yesterday to write an email I plan to send out as well as do some of the blog commenting. As long as the environment isn't too noisy, it's not too bad. I still have to correct things (more so when I'm not in DragonPad), but I'm getting to the point where if I go to correct something, it's usually in the list of option for the correction.

(Didn't use it to write this, but I guess I could have :D )

I guess I'm at a point with it where I'm at least no slower than typing and sometimes a bit faster.

Unfortunately I'm one of those impulsive buyers that very rarely ever read the sales copy, lol. I used get converted by a sales video or webinar then skip through the sales copy, straight to the 'ADD to CART' button...haha, but one of the trainings I have been doing (nothing to do with Internet Marketing but all about Sales Copy) is a great tip about studying Infomercials on TV, sit down with pen and paper and write two lists, one of how many benefits they talk about and the other about the actual product itself. You will find that benefits always outweigh because people always want to know 'what's in it for me' 'how will this help me'.

How many of us have been sucked in to buying fitness equipment through infomercials that wind up sitting in our garages gathering dust, its because an Ad comes on TV, exercising isn't even on your mind at the time but you get hooked into listening and what do you know, you pick up and phone and buy!! They know how to sell, period.

Just an idea :)

I've had very good experiences with MediaPiston.com. They only hire from English-speaking nations and seem to be pretty quick to block any writers that aren't up to scratch. You can post jobs so that they are only available to writers with expertise in particular areas, such as writing sales copy, and you get to request revisions if you're not happy. Overall, I've been very satisfied.

Do not hire from iWriter and the like if you want a sales copy. Trying to hire someone for $4 to write something worth $2000 is expecting too much. I am an expert writer with iWriter and I have my own personal clients clients. From experience, here is my best advice.

1. You can try doing it yourself if you have good grammar.

2. Depending on your budget, hire an in-house Copywriter who can do all your copywriting. You can easily pass on a $500 per month budget but make sure they deliver.

3. If iWriter, Elance and the rest are your only option, then break the copy into pieces. Get someone to write each part of the copy. The copy may have even 3,000 words so you can break into 5 pieces of 500 words. Make your instructions as clear as possible. You can outsource graphics from Fiverr. Videos also convert well so get some.

4. Get some authority testimonials from industry leaders or respected personalities.

All the best.

Article writers are definitely the one you'll need if you really want to establish an article site. But hiring a copywriter is also a plus, specially if you'll be aiming for a good sales page. I think you won't be needing to have a genie or even a magical wand to wish for it, because as of these days, the height of the popularity of services provided by copywriters are a bit influential. You may search for copywriters online, but be sure to make a good choice so as not to regret or feel unsatisfied.
