How does google penalize you for keyword stuffing?

In one of my articles, I can't seem to avoid using one of my keywords numerous times. There doesn't seem to be any way around it. How many times can you use a keyword before google will penalize you for keyword stuffing?

What if you can't get around it? Will Google penalize that page and keep it from ranking, or will Google penalize my whole entire website because of that one page?

Hey Kurt,

If you're writing naturally and not actually TRYING to keyword stuff, then you're probably fine, to be honest.

I don't think anybody knows a specific keyword density at which point Google will start looking at you funny. I'm sure it's a lot more complicated than just a straight figure like 5%.

If your article reads normally from a human perspective, and you don't have a bunch of random keywords stuffed into the footer of your page, and the rest of your site looks above board... I really wouldn't worry about it.

Like Aletta said, there is no specific keyword density that Google is looking at. From a reader's point of view (and a writer's too), reading (and using) the same keyword over and over on an article is boring.

Try using variations of the keyword, or use its synonyms instead. I try to use my target keyword once in every hundred or so words. The rest of the time that I need to use the same keyword, I look for its synonym, or a variation that I can use on that sentence.

This is where keyword research comes in. You can refer to your list and see which keywords mean the same thing. Ubersuggest.org is also good place to get variations on your keyword too.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Do not overthink of the keyword density. This doesn't really matter as much as it did way back the pre panda-penguin days. A lot of good rankings sites only use their target keyword/s within the title of their article, at the beginning of the paragraph, and at the last part of the content. You may also do the same, so you do not have to think how many more you'll be adding per article. :)
