Have articles written for me or have my own proofread?

Hi all,

I'd like to write my English languaged articles myself, to save money, but I'm a bit concerned about my spelling because I'm not a native English speaker. I wonder what would it cost to have my articles proofread? How much does a native English speaker generally ask per word/article for proofreading?

If it's reasonably costly, then I might as well have an elancer write the whole articles for me right? I remember that I used to outsource articles for about 10/12$ a piece a few years ago, for about 500 words per article.

So for how much could I have a proper native English speaker have articles proofread for me? I know I could post a project on elance for example, but I want to avoid a bad reputation for not choosing someone for my project as I'm just looking for an indication right now.

Thanks.

Hi Rudolf,

Proofreading tasks cost as low as $5, or as high as $40, depending on the number of articles as well as your requirements. That's the average and you can base the contract price on that. Before you do, I suggest you go around in eLance and check out the proofreading job posts and see how much employers are paying and how much the contractors/workers are bidding for it.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Hi Rudolf,

You can try iWriter if you want to save costs on new content. You can get (I think) as low as $3.article.

For proofreading, you can try Grammrly- this is an online tool to proofread your own articles. It's cost efficient as compared to hiring proofreaders :)

Both of you thanks for your reply!

I love the idea of Grammarly, however I feel that nothing beats human proofreading right now. I went on and read a couple of reviews and comments about Grammarly and not everyone seems to be pleased with it. It's very cheap though, and they have a 7 day trial, so I might check it out anyway to see if it works for me. Thing is though, I'll never really know if it works because English is a second language for me, oh the irony!

I also went on Elance to check how much they're proposing for proofreading jobs but the bids are all sealed.

Proofreading tasks cost as low as $5, or as high as $40,

How much would that be for one 500 word article for example?

Thanks.

Hi R,

If I may add, you may also look at Fiverr gigs for proofreading services. You can get specific pricing there. I have seen one who offers $5 for 2000 words.

Hi Rudolf,

I'm facing the same problem because I'm Spanish. I remember several months ago trying to find a good writer to proofread my content and they wanted to charge me based on the number of words, what I considered a rip-off, because they only had to read the article and change a few words (total time: 10-15 minutes)

I've been oursourcing articles and I don't like the quality that I'm getting. It's pretty obvious to me that article writers are using the same ideas again and again... and again... Too boring!

I've seen that elance is one of the most expensive solutions, ODesk is cheaper, but the next outsourcing website I'm goint to try is FREELANCER.COM. They have combined vworker.com and other several sites and there are many cheap native article writers that can help you in your business.

If you find another solution, please share, I will share my impressions too.

Good luck!

I'm goin to give it a try. I just have to send my awesome article and ask for proofread. They will love that task, easier than ever and $3 is a good price. Once you find a writer that you like you publish the project only for that writer.

I have another idea! If you are going to work with awriter for a long time, make sure the articles are really well writen. When you collect 10 articles go to a senior editor and pay them $30/hour to tell you how good those articles are. You will make sure that the writer is legit and professional (you'll never know the real level of proficiency until you do this) I've done it in the past with shocking results, you'll see the real deal!

Agree, this is really a good idea and not to mention a win-win for both the outsources and freelancer :)

Choosing which of the proofreader or writer depends on how you may be able to benefit from each of them. I suggest you do your own research on the pros and cons of each of them and weigh things over. Then choose the one that has more advantages than the other one.

Hi Rudolf and others, at my site Needanarticle.com (my family business), we offer cents for word writing, we also have a monthly subscription fee which we use for providing professional proofreading, plagiarism checking and for developing new features, among other things.

Currently $9.95/month.

let me know before you do anything though, because I might be able to give you and any Affilorama friends a special offer or something.

Thanks.

Having your articles proofread is a good idea, but if you do not have financial constraints, I would recommend you to get your articles done by a professional writer. If you can find one thats good and gives plenty of time listening to your requirements, you might consider yourself fortunate enough.
