Do I continue with my old website or start over?

I have been out of the article marketing loop for over four years. I want to get back in. I realize that it is not the only game in town and that social media, videos, etc. are the rage. But, writing articles is my passion and I want to give it another go.
I have a website that was initially intended to attract newbie affiliates. In fact, ‘newbie affiliates’ is in the domain name. It has a lot of content on it. Since then I realized that most if not all of the content is about article marketing and does not address general topics that a ‘newbie affiliate’ might be interested in.
Since I have been out of the loop for so long, I am attempting to do some due diligence to decide what to do.
I want to focus on article writing/marketing.
My questions are these: Should I hold on to my old website; promote it and continue to add article writing content? Would it be better to create a new website whose name better reflects its content? And, if I do create a new website, can I copy content from the old website, along with new content of course, without too much of a SERP penalty?
Any opinions are welcomed.

 Hi,

If you do not have any problems with SEO or ranking, I suggest you continue with your old website.

What you need to do is to properly manage your content- perhaps categorized them and then just add new articles that are suited to your present goal.

 If you want to focus on article writing/marketing instead of Affiliate then sure you can pick a new preplanned website, and design & develop it as per its nature. Because if old one (‘newbie affiliates’) is well known for affiliates then its best to start new one for blogging/content marketing.

 I think you should continue with your site. The domain is not bad at all. It does not limit your website to article marketing, but connotes that your site has everything any newbie to affiliate marketing expects to know about.

Starting a new site from scratch means doing each step all over again, versus writing new topics for the site and updating it's design instead.

Thank you for your response. I decided to continue with my old site and work to build up its PR and Google love. Thank you again.

 I also think it would be ok to keep the site and lets face it if someone checks out your site and sees that it has some age to it, it adds credibility to the site and you can always redo any page on the site with new updated articles.

Thank you for that advice. I expect I intuitively sensed that opinion. I've given my site a facelift and am writing new material.
