Is there an easy way to add meta keywords on a page or blog post? Or are they not necessary anymore since some site audits still show empty meta keywords as an error?

The meta keywords are not necessary anymore. It does not help you to improve your ranking!!

You can add meta keywords simply by using this code <meta name="keywords" content="add keywords here">. But now its doesn't help your website rankings.

Google, Bing and other widely used search engines no longer pay much if any attention to data in the Meta keyword field.

If the page already has meta's but the tool doesn't detect it, we should ignore it!

Meta keywords were devalued by Google because site owners and marketers were exploiting them. In order to rank low-quality pages for certain search terms, developers will "stuff" the code full of high-volume keywords and phrases, greatly diluting the accuracy and value of the search results.

It is not necessary to populate the Meta keyword field. It serves no perceptible SEO purpose, and human website visitors can’t see it.
Google will not penalize you for using the Meta keyword field. If you happen to have Meta keywords loaded on your site, you certainly don’t have to drop everything and get rid of them.
