Do search engines use domain names for website ranking?

Hi there

Joined last week, excellent stuff. I am totally novice to IM/AM. Have read a great deal and about to make a start. I have a question though....it may be a silly one but here goes....

Is there any advantage of having a domain name reflecting the content of your site in particular, does any of the search engines use the domain name for website ranking?

Your thoughts on this will be most welcome.

 I think SEs may give a site with its keywords as the domain. I'm not sure how much, but it may be worth putting one of your main keywords as your domain, if possible.

Does that make sense Bob?

 Try to keep your domain short, but also using a strong keyword.

I meant to say that it may give you a slight boost. If you own dogtraining.com, it's probably going to be easier to rank for dog training than it would be if your domain was ireallylikegoingtothebeach.com
