Google Threatens to Slap Me!

Hey everyone,

I will admit that I'm pretty much a moron when it comes to PPC. For whatever reason, I just can't seem to get it to work and turn a profit. I build websites in typical AffiloBlueprint style and follow the PPC section by the book. Yet I recently got threatened by Google. Any chance you guys can help me out with this?

Landing pages advertised via AdWords must have relevant, original content, and must be transparent about the nature of the business being promoted. Further, advertisers are prohibited from promoting certain types of sites, which include, but are not limited to:

* Data collection sites that imply delivery of free items, etc., in order to collect private information
* Arbitrage sites without relevant and original content that are designed for the purpose of showing ads
* Affiliate sites without relevant and original content that are designed to drive traffic to another site with a different domain
* "Get-rich quick" sites that make unrealistic promises
* Sites that are deceptive
* Sites that distribute malware or spyware
* Extremely misleading/unverifiable or inaccurate claims

The only reasons I could think that my account would be in trouble is because:

1. I have a link in the footer of the PPC page that goes back to the home page, which has an opt-in form. Does this make my site a "data collection site?"

2. My site is an affiliate site. My content is original and relevant, but is Google somehow seeing my site as something that is "designed to drive traffic" or "designed to display ads?"

I don't know... PPC is something that I've never really gotten the hang of. Can anyone tell me what I should do about this?

Hey Clayton.

I wouldn't get too discouraged about the PPC, I bet that your site is fine, but it may just be the product that you are promoting is on the 'attract spam and dodgy types' list that Google, Squidoo, Hubpages..... and everyone else seem to be building.

I had two sites that I queried with Google, one was for a womens' health product and one was for chicken coops. Google said that the chicken coop was an example of ones that they welcomed with open arms, the womens' health one would be slapped because of the product that was promoted regardless of the quality of my site.

Yahoo is a good place to go, but I have a feeling that once the merger with Bing goes through we may see changes there too :)

Hi Clayton,

I got the same message from Google. They say my account is in violation of their terms. I've tried a few things like removing my pop up and sticking a huge red message on my site declaring my affiliate status but they still don't like it.

They simply keep telling me to read their terms and conditions.

I know that's not much help sorry, but at least you're not alone!

cheers,
Keith

Having a quick look around other forums and discussions there is a real feeling of all the PPC experts 'laying low' and seeing what happens. So maybe we should be doing the same :)

I'm sure that Mark or someone will update us all when it is 'safe' to try again - or will offer another alternative to SEO as part of the AB system.

There are several threads on this. basically, i fyou are promoting affiliate products, you are automatically deemed low quality, and will not be allowed. Mark recommended in AJP to use other networks besides google.
