Can I Get Traffic From Keyword With No Search Volume?

Hi I'm sort of new to internet marketing. I just started with Amazon review sites. Here are my questions.

I'm doing product/model # research. Let's say small blue widget PH1234. I do some research and there's 1,000 exact match searches but the competition is tough. But I notice on Google suggest and on the bottom(related keywords) there is small blue widget PH1245 reviews. So I research small blue widget reviews and the competition looks easy and looks like I can easily rank.. BUT the problem is there isn't any search volume.

Since the competition is tough for small blue widget PH1234 and easy for small blue widget PH1234 how can I expect to get traffic with a keyword that has no search volume?

The product in Amazon is 'flying off the shelves' but product keyword/model # is competitive with mostly eCommerce sites, couple Authority sites. The 1st site is a PR4, 2nd PR3. The rest are PR2-0's.

Any help please.

Marc

Hi Marc,

A keyword with no monthly search volume does not necessarily mean it won't bring you traffic, but it's going to be minimal traffic that it's not really worth the effort of targeting such keyword.

I would rather go for the more competitive keyword with higher search volume and try my luck there. I would also look at other variations. Using your example, I can try and see the results for "buy small blue widget PH1234 online" or "buy small blue widget PH1234". What is the product for? What issues does it help to resolve? You can also look into related keywords and see which ones have good monthly search values and low competition.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Hi Marc,

Not all keywords are created equal. In my experience, the best converting keywords are long tail ones, ones the customers use to find what they are looking for, and often not displayed by keyword research tool data.

Product keywords are good, but product review keywords could be better. If you can rank for the term "product + review", the people who search for that term could really be in a buying mode. Therefore, even with a low amount of visitors per month, you could make money due to the high converting nature of the keyword.

Of course, the exact match product keyword is good to target also. Maybe one "plan of attack" you could do is first go after the product review keyword and make your first few sales and get commissions, then use the profit to go after the main product keyword.

Cheers,
Endy

Hi ed5,

What I'm experiencing is product name model # review doesn't have any searches but product name model # does. I do understand that product name model # review people are in a buying mode but if there isn't any traffic.

Now here's an Amazon review site that is interesting. I saw this site posted somewhere. Here the keywords are product name model # keywords which are LOW competition. I checked the PR of the 1st page of Google and PR's are mostly PR0's! Hardly any back links. On page SEO all sites seem to be good.

http://bestlawngarden.com/

Here's a product I investigated and all products on the site have pretty much LOW competition keywords. Now each product averages 1-2 sales/month on Amazon but I guess if you have many 1-2 sale a month products it adds up?

http://bestlawngarden.com/poulan-p3500-review/

The site ranks for Poulan p3500. Poulan p3500 gets 90 exact match searches a month. Poulan p3500 review doesn't get much searches.

The point is the person tapped into LOW competition keywords and therefore ranking on almost all the product name model # keywords. So in this case with these keywords they don't need to rank for product name model # review/s because they rank for both anyway.

How can I tap into these low competition product name model # keywords like above?

My site and please be kind lol, my product name keywords are more competitive.

Hi Marc,

I checked some of the product keywords for the site you referred to and most of them have high competition. It would be difficult at this time to rank on the same keywords. I suggest you look at what these individual products do and what issues they help resolve, then target those keywords instead.

Take a look at the sales pages for the products you're promoting and check out the the target keywords of the sales page. Then check the monthly searches of the same keywords.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

A keyword with no search volume may be bring traffic to your website but its not helpful to increase your ROI.

Secondly try to avoid such keywords.
