Is Forum Marketing Really Effective?

Do you find forum marketing really effective? Are forums considered mere traffic generators like traffic exchanges, unable to drive targeted traffic to your sites? Or do you experience some good results with forums? Do you think that a marketer should refrain from forum content laden with sales pitch?

Hi kallayprasanth05,

Forum marketing, like blog commenting, is really effective... when done properly. You can get not only backlinks, but traffic as well when participating in blogs and forums. The key is to provide value to the users by adding to the discussion and providing helpful information.

Forum marketing is a great way to build your reputation and and that of your site too. This is how you become an authority: by providing helpful information to everyone.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

if you look at forums as linking, it won't be as effective as they once were. if you are in a niche you are personally involved with, they can be really great. Forums are more social atmospheres, and like any social setting, the more social and interactive you are, the better your results will be. I do a lot of forum marketing, mainly as a way to meet and help more people.

I don't recommend using forums for sales heavy content. I do all my forums a lot like I do here. I help answer questions as much as possible, and give actionable advice, allowing my signature to advertise my site. by doing that, I am able to connect with people specific to the niche, and build a reputation as someone willing to help others. this is what drives traffic to my sites and gets people opting into my lists.

I often seek out products with private forums to promote as an affiliate, and try to get access to those forums. This alllows me to help proven buyers, and get those people coming to my sites.

You're right James !

Joining forum is similar to joining a community sharing the same profession or hobby. We provide and receive quality information, experience, and praise each other for their success, which encourages us to continue for that goal.

The traffic, then, is the result of your contribution.

If you provide useful feedback in forums it can really help you get traffic but you have to really be contributing. Try to pick a few forums that pertain to your topic and contribute on a daily basis.

Depending on a topic, forum marketing can be really effective. Taking an example from SEO industry, there are some industry leaders who established their reputation by helping others in forums. If you check such boards as Warrior Forum, Digital Point and a few more, you will notice that some members are more authoritative and their reputation is likely to drive customers to their services.

Once you managed to establish your reputation, signature links will do the rest. Plus, the forum signature can be optimized which gives an additional SEO bonus.

Hi cecille.l! Hope you are enjoying good health. It is hard to believe that no follow back links are too helpful for link building and that is why most of the gurus are in favor of doing seo on the sites that offer do follow links and leave the other no follow links. But my question is most of the forums with high page rank and reputation offer only no follow back links. So please suggest me if i should go for the no follows or just keep my self to the sites offering do follow links as many of them are of low quality and low page rank although getting back links from them may harm my web site rankings? I would appreciate your suggestions.

Totally agree with Cecille. Forums can be the best way to increase traffic and conversion rates.
The main thing is that try to participate in discussions, do not just comment for promotion. Give user a good reply so that chances of conversions can increase.
Forums and blog commenting can be a good sourse of traffic if used in a god way.

I think your site's relevance to the sites that you're linking to and linking back to you have more weight than do follow links. If you find a high PR site where you can create do follow links, then great. By all means, create back links on that site. But don't get twisted or frustrated if all sites you're coming across are no follow. You can build links on these sites as well and promote your website just the same. The links you create here will be counted by search engines as well, particularly if the site you're linking on is related to or within your site's niche.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Yes. Developing relationships via professional learning communities and providing specific information to the knowledge-base is what gives Internet Marketing the edge. These are the ways businesses are networking and handling public relations, marketing and advertising in the 21st Century. My favorite part about it, is the promise of reaching out globally and really creating a greater community than ever possible before.

The only way to use forum marketing effectively is by establishing yourself as a forum expert. If you take time to focus solely on the community and their needs, rather than making a sales pitch, you will more easily gain the trust of the people who are there. Just look for ways you can contribute such as by submitting original articles and tutorials to a forum as well as answering other member questions in a very lengthy manner.

Don't try to be the Mr Fixit for every problem on forum though, just stick with your own niche. So if you are into computer repair, answer questions just about tech and computer issues. In this way, others will clearly be able to identify your expertise as "The Computer Repair Guy'. The same is true for any niche, whether child care, forum management or real estate sales.
